The American pilot Charles Lindbergh (1902-1974) was one of the most important pioneers in the history of air travel. In May 1927, the former post office pilot completed the first non-stop flight over the Atlantic. In his small single-engine plane, Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh left New York, arriving in Paris just over thirty-three hours later, becoming an instant hero both in Europe and in the United States.
